Course Description:

Get certified and stay compliant—fast. This course prepares HVAC professionals to successfully pass the EPA Section 608 certification exam, covering essential refrigerant handling practices, Clean Air Act regulations, and the environmental impact of CFC, HCFC, and HFC refrigerants.

 

Designed for technicians, maintenance personnel, and those entering the field, this training builds the knowledge needed for safe handling, recovery, and regulatory compliance—while strengthening workforce skills. The EPA Section 608 certification exam is administered at the conclusion of the course, allowing participants to leave fully prepared and credentialed.

 

Course Overview:

Upon successful completion of the course the student will be able to:

State the difference between CFC’s, HCFC’s, HFC’s, what makes them different, their degree of ozone depleting potential and cite examples of each

● Define refrigerant nomenclature

● Explain why alternate refrigerants require higher grade oils and what these new oils are

● Explain the Montreal Protocol International agreement and its significance to the “Clean Air Act”

● Describe the annual leak rates for equipment containing more than 50 lbs. of refrigerant

● Describe the penalties or fines under the EPA Clean Air Act.

● Explain why proper disposing of disposable cylinders is important

● Explain DOT Section 8, transportation and shipping specifications and guidelines

● Describe refrigerant recovery, recycling, and reclamation practices

● Define service practice requirements including recovery requirements and major and minor repairs

 

Refund Policy

Any student who wishes to drop a course may do so by visiting or calling any of the campus Welcome Centers. These requests must be made no less than one calendar day prior to the first class meeting date to be eligible for a full refund of tuition and fees (except for any tuition or fees noted as nonrefundable).

Unless otherwise specifically stated or approved, no refund will be issued after a course-start date.

We do not issue partial refunds in the event that a student starts a course late or does not complete the course.

Refund Policy

If HACC cancels a course, training, seminar, conference or trip/tour, all paid participants will receive a 100% refund of all tuition and fees. Students receiving Title IV Financial Aid will be subject to the federal regulations regarding withdrawal of classes.
