Course Description:
The full course package includes 23 hours online through Healwell's website PLUS 24 hours in-person at HACC.
This course covers critical thinking and hands-on adaptations to work safely and effectively with clients who are in cancer treatment or who have undergone cancer treatment. Students will practice adapting for short term, long term, and late effects of cancer treatment. They will practice gathering relevant client information, even with a very short intake time. This class culminates in a client clinic where students will have the opportunity to provide a 60-minute massage to a person affected by cancer.

Must be completed prior to the in-person class.

Upon successful completion of the course the student will be able to:
- complete a skillful, thorough, and compassionate intake for the client who has been affected by cancer
- adapt their massage to provide a safe and effective session for the client who has been affected by cancer

Kerry Jordan, LMT
As Healwell’s Operations Director, Kerry coordinates strategy, communications and logistics for Healwell’s education and service programs. She leads Healwell’s development and fundraising activities and interfaces with the finance teams at Healwell’s partner facilities.
In addition to her duties as Operations Director, Kerry provides massage therapy and teaches in hospitals and clinical settings throughout the Washington, DC metro area and around the world for adult and pediatric palliative care patients and other patients with complex needs and high symptom burden.
Rebecca Sturgeon, LMT
In addition to being a valuable member of Healwell’s faculty and curriculum development team, Rebecca is also Healwell’s Education Director. She works tirelessly to organize existing courses and to create new opportunities for Healwell to offer meaningful and robust inter-professional education for massage therapists and other health care providers. Rebecca co-authored Oncology Massage: An integrative approach to cancer care (Handspring, 2021.)
As a former teacher of writing at the college level, Rebecca is passionate about the written word and about all forms of human communication. In her massage practice, she focuses on integrating therapeutic massage as part of overall health and wellness care. She is also an experienced mentor to new massage therapists, and facilitator of learning groups.
