Prehospital Trauma Life Support
16 CPC credits
This 16-hour course is designed to take the prehospital EMS care provider basic assessment skills and enhance them. The focus is to improve the quality of trauma care and decrease mortality. Treatment of the multi-system trauma patient with unique needs will be stressed. Additional attention will be geared on addressing the special patient populations of pregnancy, pediatrics, and geriatrics.
Curriculum Focus & Topics:
This course utilizes the internationally recognized PHTLS textbook and will discuss the following:
• Physiology of life and death
• Scene assessment
• Patient assessment
• Hemorrhage control
• Airway management
• Breathing, ventilation and oxygenation
• Circulation and shock
Completion:
• NAEMT requires a grade of 76% or above to be considered for successful course complete in addition to all the required psychomotor skills. All hours of instruction are required to receive course completion documents.
