Professional Dog Grooming (70485)

Course Overview

This course provides a comprehensive introduction to professional dog grooming, combining theory with practical skills. Students will build a strong foundation in canine communication, safe handling, and grooming best practices, while exploring skin and coat health, breed-specific techniques, and modern styling methods. The program covers essential grooming skills, specialized approaches for different coat types and life stages, and advanced techniques such as hand-stripping and Asian fusion styling. Learners will refine their abilities in a simulated salon environment and prepare for industry certification through final review and exam readiness.

In partnership with Groom Curriculum, HACC's Professional Dog Grooming program is taught by American Kennel Club (AKC) verified instructions. The program is blended and offers tailored lessons through both an online Learning Management System (LMS) and hands-on training. The program begins with 60 hours of online learning followed by hands-on training at The Shaggy Dog. The curriculum meets industry and academic standards and prepares students to sit for the AKC Professional Grooming Credential (AKC PGC) Exam.
