Course Overview

This course provides an introduction to basic conversational Spanish for those with little to no Spanish language experience. Commonly used essential phrases, vocabulary, and beginner level grammar concepts needed for everyday communication will be taught and practiced through a variety of interactive lessons including pronunciation exercises, dialogue, and dictation. Cultural insights also accompany each lesson.

 

Learning Objectives:

• Conduct an introductory conversation that includes “small talk”

• Describe feelings and states of being

• Express numbers, days, dates, and time

• Create basic complete sentences using nouns, verbs and complements

• Ask basic questions and respond affirmatively or negatively

• Use cultural knowledge for increased cultural competence

• Politely participate in basic conversations discussing demographics, time, relationships, etc.

• Implement communication strategies that support a language learner during interaction

• Where is Spanish spoken globally and locally

• Cognates, Basic Rules of Syntax, Gender or Nouns and Formal & Informal Tones

• Alphabet and Sounds

• Personal Pronouns

• Greetings

• Numbers

• Providing Demographic Information, Dates, and Telling Time

• The Verb to Be and Expressing Feelings

• Commonly Used Verbs for Everyday Communication

• Asking Questions, Prepositions of Location, and Giving Directions

Refund Policy 

If HACC cancels a course, training, seminar, conference or trip/tour, all paid participants will receive a 100% refund of all tuition and fees. Any student who wishes to drop a course may do so by visiting or calling any of the campus Welcome Centers. These requests must be made no less than one (1) calendar day prior to the first class meeting date to be eligible for a full refund of tuition and fees, except for any tuition or fees noted as nonrefundable. Unless otherwise specifically stated or approved, no refund will be issued after a class start date. We do not issue partial refunds in the event a student starts a class late or does not complete the class. Students receiving Title IV Financial Aid will be subject to the federal regulations regarding withdrawal of classes. Financial Aid eligibility will be recalculated based on dates of participation in financial aid eligible programs.
