Course Overview

This instructor-led course provides an intermediate level of English grammar and conversation for those looking to improve their English for use in the community, college, and career environments. It serves as a prerequisite for advanced non-credit English. The course will cover commonly used phrases, vocabulary, and grammatical structures through a variety of interactive activities and assessments. Classroom activities will provide students with opportunities to read, write, listen and speak English. Homework, websites, and other assignments will be given for completion outside of class.

 

Learning Objectives:

  • Improve listening and speaking skills in situations related to everyday life and both familiar and unfamiliar social situations.
  • Become comfortable using oral and written communication with more common expressions, proper grammar, and complex sentence structures.
  • Gain confidence on the job, and move beyond basic conversation with coworkers.

Course Topics:

  • Intermediate conversation and pronunciation practice
  • Verbs in the present and past participle
  • Regular and irregular verbs 
  • Filling out simple forms

Duration: 60 hours 

Schedule: Tuesdays & Thursdays 6:00-8:30pm

Completion of a new student orientation session and placement testing is required.

Online course registration and payments are limited to one per person.

Refund Policy 

If HACC cancels a course, training, seminar, conference or trip/tour, all paid participants will receive a 100% refund of all tuition and fees. Any student who wishes to drop a course may do so by visiting or calling any of the campus Welcome Centers. These requests must be made no less than one (1) calendar day prior to the first class meeting date to be eligible for a full refund of tuition and fees, except for any tuition or fees noted as nonrefundable. Unless otherwise specifically stated or approved, no refund will be issued after a class start date. We do not issue partial refunds in the event a student starts a class late or does not complete the class. Students receiving Title IV Financial Aid will be subject to the federal regulations regarding withdrawal of classes. Financial Aid eligibility will be recalculated based on dates of participation in financial aid eligible programs.
