Course Overview
This six-session course introduces the core principles of nonprofit leadership, including mission-driven work, governance, strategic thinking, financial basics, fundraising, and communication. Participants will build practical skills to understand nonprofit roles and responsibilities, strengthen organizational impact, and lead with confidence.
Learning Objectives:
- Explain the structure and role of the nonprofit sector, including how nonprofits differ from businesses and government entities, and the importance of mission, vision, values, and public trust.
- Distinguish between governance and management responsibilities, and describe the roles of board members, executive directors, and staff in supporting organizational effectiveness.
- Apply basic strategic thinking skills by connecting daily activities to mission-driven goals, setting priorities, and outlining key elements of a simple strategic plan.
- Interpret fundamental nonprofit financial concepts, including budgeting, revenue sources, and restricted versus unrestricted funds, to support responsible financial stewardship.
- Describe core fundraising principles and strategies, including donor engagement, and demonstrate how to communicate mission in ways that inspire support.
- Demonstrate effective communication and ethical leadership practices, including building relationships, maintaining transparency, and strengthening organizational credibility and community trust.
