Phlebotomy Training
Course Description:
Students acquire the skills necessary to properly obtain blood specimens for laboratory testing Topics include safety procedures, infection control, medical terminology, specimen collection, collection equipment, point-of-care testing, customer service, and the role of the phlebotomist in the health care system. Students are required to perform venipuncture in this class. Provides students the opportunity to apply skills taught in laboratory setting within a clinical setting. Under the direct supervision of a clinical preceptor at an affiliated clinical site, students are able to function competently as a Phlebotomist as they work a total of 80 hours in a clinical setting. A course fee is included.
Admission Requirements:
*All admission requirements must be completed and physically turned into the administrative office or emailed electronically to jafoster@hacc.edu no later than two weeks prior to the first day of class. Students will not be allowed to start the program until this is completed and verified by program coordinator, Jackie Foster. The admission requirements are listed below.
-Physical Examination
-Vision Exam
-Background Clearances (FBI, Child Abuse & PA State Police)
-Influenza Vaccination (if attending clinical between October and March)
-Negative two-step Mantoux test or negative QuantiFERON-TB Gold Test
-Rubella (German Measles) Status
-Measles
-Mumps
-Varicella (Chicken Pox) Status
-Tetanus/Diptheria/Pertussis (TDAP) Status
-Hepatitis A Status
-Hepatitis B Status
